'Oh My God, What A Complete Aisling' The Novel Launch

Dubray Books, Grafton St. was heaving with friends, family and #OMGWACA fans yesterday evening. The book was officially launched by the wonderful Louise McSharry with speeches from Gill Books Commissioning Editor Conor Nagle and ’Oh My God, What A Complete Aisling’ authors Emer McLysaght and Sarah Breen. The book is No. 2 in the Paperback Fiction Book Charts and No. 3 in the overall Book Charts, well done Emer and Sarah! Check out some pictures from the launch over on our Facebook page.

Louise McSharry summed up the book perfectly saying "This book and its characters are really special, there is a bit of Aisling in all of us! The book gives a really accurate snippet into the relationships that we have with our parents and the way we learn to interact with them as we become adults. It is difficult to create something that warms the heart and makes you laugh but that’s exactly what Sarah and Emer have done."

About the Book

Oh My God, What a Complete Aisling started life as a Facebook page depicting a very particular type of Irish girl. She is from the country (or, more specifically “down home”) and although she lives and works in Dublin you’ll find her every Friday evening trying to beat the traffic on the N7 or the N4 or whatever route will take he back to her beloved BallyGoBackwards (BGB).

On weekdays she pounds the pavement to work wearing her runners for maximum speed and comfort, court shoes in her bag ready to slip on once she reaches the office. She carries her lunch in a Brown Thomas bag saved from a trip to the Clinique counter last Christmas. Aisling’s never dyed her hair or lost a phone, she’ll always have the paracetamol ready for anyone who needs it and she’s the one making sure the handbags are safe on a night out. Yes, she IS partial to the “odd night out” and can often be found in Flannery’s or Coppers, hoofing into the Coors Lights, the West Coolers, or the vodka and Cokes (if she’s “out out”).

After spending the past eight years relating her adventures to a massive and enthusiastic fanbase online, Aisling is now making the jump to the literary page (what notions!) in a warm and funny novel about a country girl trying to make her way in the Big Smoke.

In the novel Aisling lives down home with her parents and is juggling commuting to her mid-level, pensionable job in Dublin with weekend trips home and trying to spend two nights a week with her boyfriend GJ (Generic John), an engineer and confirmed ‘fine thing’. Life is good, or so it would seem … but Aisling wants more. She wants the ring on her finger. She wants that road frontage. She wants out of her parents’ house. When a disastrous trip to Spain turns Aisling’s world upside down, she surprises herself by agreeing to move to Portobello with stylish Sadhbh and the mysterious Elaine. Newly independent and relocated to the big city, life is about to change utterly for Aisling.

Oh My God, What A Complete Aisling is available online with Dubray, Eason, the Book Depository, our website and in all good bookshops nationwide.
