In Sight of Yellow Mountain A Year in the Irish Countryside by Philip Judge

Actor Philip Judge swapped the West End for the Wicklow…

A large crowd turned out to Hatch and Sons for the launch of In Sight of Yellow Mountain by Philip Judge. Philip was joined by his friends, family and members of the Irish writing and acting community. A big thanks to Dubray Stillorgan for bookselling on the night, Hatch and Sons for hosting and creating some delicious canape inspired by Philip’s own recipes and to Susannah de Wrixon and Karen Egan who provided some captivating entertainment with their own rendition of ’All Kinds of Everything’ inspired by Philip’s country life.

Somewhere between Edward Thomas and Henry Thoreau, Philip Judge pitches his radiant tent. It is a book about outpost and inscape, and is a luminous, funny and profound reading experience.’

Sebastian Barry

‘In Sight of Yellow Mountain brought me back to my childhood love of James Herriot’s books, All Creatures Great and Small. Philip Judge strips bare all dignity and personal embarrassment to immerse himself in country life and we are the winners.’
Pat Shortt

About the book

In his first book In Sight of Yellow Mountain Philip Judge details how two near-death experiences gave him a new lust for country life. Swapping chasing lights for chasing cattle, this beautifully written book will have you scouring the property sections for country cottages.

You’ll cringe as you read about Philip’s first time working with ‘Male Farmer Friend’ and how his attempts to ingratiate himself with the locals by wearing a Cowboy Duster coat fell flat. You’ll shiver with the descriptions of how his family managed when storms cut their electricity during one cold winter. You’ll smile at the evident love and devotion he shows his wife (The Beloved) and two sons through every action, and every observation.

For those who wish to escape the city rat-race and ever-climbing property prices, Philip proves that living in the countryside is achievable and needn’t stay a distant dream. Equally, it is for those who want a vicarious peek into what running a small farm and adapting to the lifestyle change entails.

In Sight of Yellow Mountain is, in short, unmissable.
