Publicist (One Year, Fixed-Term Contract)

Gill Books publishes an eclectic list of bestselling and award-winning books, from current affairs to history, biography to lifestyle, and cookery to children’s. Recent bestsellers include Hector Ó hEochagáin’s The Irish Words You Should Know, John Creedon’s This Boy’s Heart, It’s Probably Your Hormones by Dr Mary Ryan, Aisling Ever After by Sarah Breen & Emer McLysaght, Season by Mark Moriarty, the Milly McCarthy series by Leona Forde and illustrated by Karen Harte and Thirty-Two Words for Field by Manchán Magan. In collaboration with some of Ireland’s best writers, brands and a network of creative talents, Gill Books creates a dynamic publishing proposition in Ireland, building on a 160-year heritage, while looking excitedly to the future.

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, energetic and persuasive Publicist to join our team. As a Publicist you will independently develop and execute effective promotional campaigns across traditional and new media channels for approximately 20 books each year.

As a key member of the close-knit Marketing & Communications team, you will have a love of books, and a deep knowledge of and a passion for understanding the Irish media and consumer landscape. You will be quick to identify the most effective channels for promoting our titles and converting your ideas and plans into impactful coverage. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Planning, implementing and presenting publicity campaigns that include review and feature coverage across newspapers, magazines, TV, radio, online and social media.
  • Event creation and management of launch events, library and schools’ events, festival appearances and media showcases.
  • Working closely with the Editorial and Sales teams to secure new talent for the list and to ensure publicity opportunities are fully maximised for existing authors.
  • Managing individual campaign budgets.
  • Providing authors with media training ahead of publication, if required.
  • Maintaining excellent media and bookseller contacts.
  • Maintaining a high level of author and agent care.
  • Acting as an ambassador for Gill Books.
  • Staying in tune with trends and news in publishing and in the broader cultural landscape and maintaining an awareness of the market.

·          The ideal candidate would have:

  • Experience of planning and executing media campaigns within publishing or in a different industry.
  •       Experience of content creation for social media channels including Instagram, TikTok and X
  •          Great organisational skills to manage a busy list of books and authors.
  •           A collaborative,motivated and flexible attitude to work both internally with teams including Editorial and Sales, and externally with our partners.
  •       A passion for books and a broad awarness of the Irish cultural and media landscape, and a desire to reach the right audiences for each book.
