For The Chop: Do We Still Need Cookbooks?

In a world of food blogs, are big colourful cookbooks on their way out? We think books are here to stay - and two of our cookbook authors will be sharing their views at a tasty event this Saturday.

Catherine Fulvio and Lilly Higgins will be joining blogger and food safety expert Sheila Kiely and Jane Travers, author of the Twitter-inspired cookbook Tweet Treats to discuss the future of the cookbook with host Catherine Cleary. And yes, we’re biased around here, but we can’t help feeling that while food blogs are fun, fresh, exciting and useful, there’s a unique pleasure in having a leisurely flick through a beautifully photographed and designed cookbook - especially as the years go by and the pages fall open immediately at our favourite recipes.

But luckily, we don’t have to choose. We believe there’ll always be room in our kitchens for cookbooks - but there’s room for food blogs too. What do you think? Are you devoted to the printed page, the laptop or tablet screen - or both?

Cooking in the 21st Century-The Evolution of the Cookbook takes place at Main Theatre, Smock Alley Theatre, Lower Exchange Street, Temple Bar, Dublin 8 on November 17th at 4.30pm.
