Celebrate the Late Late Toy Show with Neven's Chocolate Fondue

This recipe from Neven Maguire is a fun, gooey, fruity treat – perfect for watching tonight’s Late Late Toy Show!

Chocolate fondue

Tradition states that if you drop your fruit into the fondue you must kiss the person opposite you. If you want to serve this individually, skewer a mixture of fruits for each person and serve with a small dish of the chocolate fondue on each plate.

Serves 4–6

300 ml (1⁄2 pint) cream

50 ml (2 fl oz) milk
1 vanilla pod
450 g (1 lb) plain chocolate, broken into squares (minimum 55% cocoa solids)
1 banana
3 apples
1 small pineapple
150 g (5 oz) strawberries
100 g (4 oz) marshmallows
50 g (2 oz) sponge fingers

Place the cream and milk in a small pan. Split the vanilla pod lengthways and scrape the seeds into the pan. Slowly heat until just at boiling point. Remove from the heat and stir in the chocolate. Keep the fondue warm by sitting the pan within a larger pan of hand-hot water.

Cut the fruit into large slices or chunks, depending on the type of fruit. Leave the strawberries whole.

To serve, remove the fondue to a heatproof bowl and place in the centre of the table with the fruit, marshmallows and sponge fingers arranged in small dishes around it, then allow each person to dip one piece of fruit, marshmallow or sponge finger at a time into the fondue.
