Run by siblings Pam, Joe and Lorraine, Blazing Salads on Dublin’s Drury Street is a hub of positive energy and good food. The first Blazing Salads cookbook was published in 2004 and now this second instalment from Lorraine is packed with the delicious wholefood loyal fans will already be familiar with.
Lorraine’s recipes are quick, easy and have obvious benefits for your health. Salads are light, bright and packed with flavour; they are not penitential diet food or an afterthought sitting limply on the side of a plate! Blazing Salads also have a huge following for their soups. Recipes included here provide a great quick lunch on the hop and are a mealful in a bowl.
The macrobiotic mantra is ‘all things in moderation’ and although she grew up in a macrobiotic household, Lorraine’s recipes are not as strict as you’d expect. Desserts play a big role in a healthy, wholefood diet so even though you’re indulging yourself with cakes and biscuits, you’re also benefitting from the goodness of wholegrain flours, natural sweeteners, seeds, nuts and dried fruit. Oh, and just a little chocolate!
Blazing Salads 2 uses all organic ingredients but with an understanding that it’s not always practical to do so. Ultimately, these recipes are about using the best, quality ingredients you can afford to get the best out of your food for your health and well-being.
