7 Tips on How to Read More Books

Time is a valuable commodity, especially for busy people who never seem to have enough of it. How do you make time to read when essentially you have no time? It’s been said that some of the busiest bees are also the most devoted readers. To help you find out how you can read more books, we asked members of the Gill Books team for their top tips. They were all so busy reading it wasn’t easy to catch them all but we managed to intersect them in the staff carpark and at the kettle.

Keep reading to find out how you can read more books!

Bring books everywhere

Always have a book on your person. Never go anywhere without a book – or two, just to be on the safe side, in case you finish the first.

The short of it

Read more short stories and get transported to another place for a short time. Perfect if you’ve a little window of twenty minutes in a day to squash in a bit of reading.

Be consistent and set goals

Consistency is more important than occasionally reading large chunks of text. If you’re really busy aim to read say, ten pages of a book or one short story. It’s a small goal but very achievable. Be consistent and never read fewer than ten pages but read more if you can. When you’ve read the ten pages, even if it’s only taken ten minutes, there is a certain sense of accomplishment!

Read before bed

Reading at night before falling asleep is a tried and tested relaxation method. It lets your mind drift away and put the day behind you. Not a night owl? Try reading a few pages over breakfast if you’re more of a morning person to start your day off alert and ready to take on the world.

Join your local library

Not a member of your local library? Join today and get borrowing! If you want to know where your local library is search Libraries Ireland to find the best one to join.

Borrow more books

Borrow more books than you think you’ll actually read. Being surrounded by books that need to be returned to the library will encourage you to read more. And who doesn’t love to be surrounded by books? If you’re more of a 21st century reader, make sure you download a batch of digital books onto your e-reader so you always have a great selection of books to choose from. Deciding which one will be your only hardship!

Join a book club

Book Clubs are great to join and can be set up very easily. Just add a few friends or like-minded individuals and some books to read and you are good to go. They are great motivation to finish a book and you can look forward to dissecting it at the next club meeting.

There are so many ways to incorporate reading into your daily life; we had to stop at 7 or you would be reading all day. Do you have reading tips? Share them with us @Gill_Books Twitter, gillbooks Instagram and on Facebook.
