Darina Allen is Ireland’s best-known food ambassador and runs the world-renowned cookery school at Ballymaloe in Co Cork. She is a tireless campaigner for local produce and set up Ireland’s first Farmers’ Market in 2000. Darina is Councillor for Ireland in the Slow Food Movement and President of East Cork Slow Food Convivium. She is a member of Taste Council of Bord Bia, Chair of Artisan Food Forum of the Food Safety Authority of Ireland and member of the Advisory Board of Safefood

Darina has won many awards including for outstanding contribution to the Irish culinary sector by Euro-Toques in 2007, IACP’s Cookery Teacher of the Year 2005 and the UK Guild of Food Writers Lifetime Achievement Award 2013. In 2010, Darina’s cookbook ‘Forgotten Skills’ was the winner of André Simon Cookbook of the Year. Her latest book, 30 Years at Ballymaloe, won Cookbook of the Year at the Irish Book Awards.
