Our kids are fat!

Never in the history of the Western World have children been as overweight as they are now. The sad fact of the matter is that another 10,000, or so, will be added to this number by the start of 2014 and it will continue to rise until we, as parents, get to grips with this reality and do something about it.

It is our job, as parents, to teach our child the language of nutrition. This task does not fall to Government or to schools. Up to ninety percent of what a child eats comes from home. We are in charge of their nutrition. They cannot eat what is not in the house, for the most part. They do not, yet, have the means to go out and but “junk” food, unless we give them the means and freedom to do so. Where our kids currently get too many calories on a regular daily basis, is at home.

In my book ‘The Food Nanny’ I go through the ten food rules that can prevent your child from a frighteningly fat future. I have four children of my own and have tested my approach over the last ten years with great success. With a Masters degree in Nutrition to back up my conviction, I put in place what are simple, old-fashioned rules around food that I myself grew up with myself.

No child needs to be on a diet necessarily, nor do they need ever to stand on a weighing scale. On the contrary, most children (pre-teens certainly) will grow into their current weight if we put in place my ten food rules now and stop any on-going weight gain.

Over the next few weeks I’m calling on parents to implement my rules and prevent a frighteningly fat future for our kids. Join me on Facebook to learn more about the rules and pick up tips on implementing them.
