Tonight (Friday 18 March) Eilís Barrett talks to Ryan Tubridy on RTE’s Late Late Show in her first interview about being a published teenage author, and her story of Oasis.

Eilís Barrett is 16 years old and lives in Galway, where she is also home-schooled by her mum, Bernadette. Passionate about all things literary, she can usually be found reading or writing stories filled with action, adventure and true love.

At the age of 12, Eilís decided that she was going to take writing seriously. Within two years she had written two full-length novels. At the age of 15, Eilís signed a two-book deal with Gill Books.

Oasis is the first book in this saga, and is inspired by all that comes with being a teenager. It follows the story of Quincy Emerson, who was born within the walls of Oasis - a fortress city built to protect its inhabitants from a deadly virus which struck years before and drove humankind to the brink of extinction. Walled off from the rest of the world, the city of Oasis became a beacon of hope for survivors. But when every aspect of life is controlled, the city began to take on a new, sinister shape. Quincy Emerson has lived her entire life in fear, and longs for more. She hopes for a cure. She hopes for freedom. But when a dangerous opportunity presents itself, she has a huge choice to make about what, and who, are really important.
