Wednesday Word: Melktert

10-10-2012 10:45

In honour of Sophie Morris’s fabulous new book Sophie Kooks, this week’s word is Melktert. Never heard of it? Sophie, whose mum comes from South Africa, explains. “It is a traditional South African dessert and simply means “Milk Tart” in Afrikaans. It’s a sweet pastry tart filled with a custard like filling except there is more milk in it than an English custard tart resulting in a lighter texture and more milky flavour. I love it!”

If you want to make your very own Melktert, you can find the recipe in Sophie’s book.
