This month we're reading: The Choice by Bernadette Bohan

13-05-2013 16:30

This May, we recommend The Choice by Bernadette Bohan, an inspiring story of an Irish wife and mother taking control of her life. In her blog below, Bernadette talks about her passion for writing, fighting cancer and the importance of daily relaxation.

Reading has always been a passion for me. When I was a small child I read a beautiful book that sparked my lifelong interest in reading and led me to spend a lot of time in my local library. Of course, back then I never thought I would end up writing books that have helped change the lives of thousands of people; Ordinary people like you and me who gained the power to turn their lives around, simply by being receptive to change. Sharing our small and not- so- small triumphs we are somehow bonded by our successes and failures. We share a genuine connection, so I found my true passion in serving the needs of the people who seek direction and guidance. My books have created a constructive nurturing dialogue with my readers, that I hope provides comfort for them and – this thought has given me the motivation to continue writing.

Having a creative outlet is a great release and, of course, there is great satisfaction in creating something of your own. So here it is, my life in paperback. The Choice is the story of an ordinary mother; it is a story full of joy, passion and tenderness. Reading literally turned out to be a lifesaver for me when I was diagnosed with cancer for a second time. I devoured books on the subject and I learned to adopt a whole new lifestyle. As I always say, ‘Knowledge is power’.

Since I now spend my life teaching people about health, I know only too well the value of setting aside a few minutes each day to relax. What better cure for a stressful lifestyle than curling up with a good book? If you want to reduce the persistent stresses of modern living, taking some time out is not only wise, but could help you rediscover some of life’s simple pleasures. I find it creates a much-needed space to unwind at the end of the day. I must say I have developed a soothing attachment to my downtime; it creates a perfect ending to my busy day.

Thank you so much for reading,

Bernadette
