Ireland’s Leading Fertility Expert sets the record straight

1 in 6 Irish couples are affected by fertility, and yet it is still a topic on which misinformation is regularly regurgitated. In The Fertility Handbook, written by Ireland’s leading fertility expert Professor Mary Wingfield, offers the antidote to this. The book covers every aspect of the challenges and factors that are associated with this emotive subject.

The Fertility Handbook will be of help not only to those who currently have issues with fertility, but also for those who are thinking of starting a family. The book offers evidence-based advice on topics ranging from the treatments which are currently available, to lifestyle changes, while dispelling common, and sometimes damaging, myths along the way.

Professor Wingfield also tackles topical issues such as why Ireland is 1 of only 3 EU countries that does not have public funding for IVF, and how the growing trend of supplement taking within male and female gym-goers can drastically affect a person’s fertility.

Dr Rhona Mahony, Master of the National Maternity Hospital said, “This book is a wonderfully accessible and hugely informative guide for anyone interested in fertility. Whether seeking or delivering care for infertility, this book will be an invaluable and constant source of reassurance and advanced knowledge.”

The Fertility Handbook is published by Gill Books, priced at €18.99. The book will be launched by Dr Rhona Mahony on Friday 9th June at 6.30 p.m. in the Gutter Bookshop, Temple Bar.

All royalties from the book go to the Merrion Fertility Clinic.
