RTÉ Morning Edition: Lugs Branigan - 'a tough, fearless Garda, beloved for his compassion'

29-10-2014 10:45

This week RTÉ Morning Edition interviewed Kevin Kearns, author of a new book about ’Lugs’ Branigan. He had a reputation as a tough, fearless Garda, but was equally loved for his humanity and compassion. Known to intervene to protect the battered women of Dublin’s tenements, he was also a protector of and father figure to the city’s prostitutes—or “pavement hostesses,” as he called them— something unheard of in the 1950s and 1960s Ireland.

The Legendary ’Lugs’ Branigan by Kevin Kearns is now available in all good bookshops nationwide; also available as an eBook.
