[Recipe] For Foodies: 7 Days to Fabulous Skin Recipe

05-10-2012 10:00

So you’d like to give your skin a boost? Forget expensive moisturisers and embrace a healthy new diet instead. To complement all the style advice in their fab new book Your Best You: How To Work What You’ve Got To Look Great Every Day, Sonya Lennon and Brendan Courtney include a ‘seven days to fabulous skin’ diet. It includes this easy drink to be sipped on waking over the week.

The cayenne pepper stimulates the body’s metabolism, the lemon juice stimulates the digestive and liver systems, whilst also alkalinising the body, and the ginger contains powerful anti-inflammatory compounds. This drink is a fabulous wake-up call to your body first thing in the morning (or at any point during your day).

Lemon Drink with Ginger

Ingredients

1 cup of boiled water
Juice of 1/2 to 1 lemon
Pinch of cayenne red pepper
Several pinches of ground cinnamon
1–2 teaspoons of finely grated ginger
Mix the lemon juice, cayenne pepper, ground cinnamon and ginger in a large mug.
Add boiling water to the mixture, while stirring.
Drink hot or allow to cool before drinking.

*Quick tip: push the ginger through a garlic press and make sure to catch the ginger juice as it has a habit of squirting everywhere. I also add the squashed ginger bit from the garlic press back into my cup to prevent wasting any goodness.

*If you do not like cayenne pepper, then consider adding some chopped sprigs of fresh rosemary, a wonderful herb to wake you up while also providing antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds.
