Question Time with Sonya Lennon and Brendan Courtney

04-10-2012 09:00

You know them as telly style gurus and the authors of the fabulous new book Your Best You: How To Work What You’ve Got To Look Great Every Day, but what was the last book Sonya Lennon read? And what was the best present Brendan Courtney ever received? Find out as both Sonya and Brendan answer the questions in the Dear Reader Questionnaire...

SONYA LENNON
1. What is your earliest memory?
I remember fishing for minnows in Manchester where I lived between the ages of two and six. I also remember dinner in our Lebanese neighbors house when I was presented with a hand embroidered kaftan made by the granny. I still have it.

2. What was the last book you read?
City of Bohane by Kevin Barry, and I loved it and want to costume the movie when it happens.

3. When and where you were happiest?
At Therme Vals, a municipal spa in a Swiss Alps. I came home feeling like me from a long time ago.

4. What is your favourite word?
Algum (album) as in CD. It’s the only word that my kids still mispronounce and I can’t bear to break the spell.

5. What is your favourite thing about your job?
That I am constantly challenged, excited and rewarded. Last Spring at Yves Saint Laurent at the Hotel Maison des Rothchild, I was moved to tears with a sense of privilege and beauty.

6. What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?
There is no finish line.

7. What do you regret?
Nothing, it’s a redundant emotion.

8. Where would you most like to live?
I like my little house in Dublin’s city centre, but I would love somewhere by the sea to escape to at weekends, to turn the valve off.

9. What’s the best present you’ve ever received?
Two Deirdre McLoughlin ceramics sculptures that were a complete surprise.

10. How would you like to be remembered?
As a good mum, and a fun date.

BRENDAN COURTNEY
1. What is your earliest memory?
Being chased by geese on the beach in Wicklow when I was 3 – put me right off birds!

2. What was the last book you read?
I reread A Confederacy of Dunces [by John Kennedy Toole].

3. When and where you were happiest?
Now! Thanks to Gill Books.

4. What is your favourite word?
Finger!

5. What is your favourite thing about your job?
Making women feel beautiful.

6. What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?
These are the good old days.

7. What do you regret?
Being impatient.

8. Where would you most like to live?
Spain.

9. What’s the best present you’ve ever received?
A hairdryer from my parents for my 13th birthday when I knew they were broke!

10. How would you like to be remembered?
As a generous person.
