Published last spring, Little Fighters took readers on a miraculous journey from the life-changing moment Angie Benhaffaf discovered her babies were joined, to the agony of their separation surgery, to the joy of seeing them celebrate their second birthday and Christmas 2010.
In this updated edition of the book, Angie continues the story into 2011 when the boys were fitted with their prosthetic limbs and their journey towards taking their first steps began.
A lot has happened since the first edition was published and Angie says of the last year:
‘My dreams of seeing Hassan & Hussein walk are becoming a reality. With the help of an amazing team at Enable Ireland, Cork the boys are progressing well with their prosthesis. However there is still a very long way to go!
Hassan is still recovering from his recent spinal surgery and his surgery will continue for many years to come. It has been an extremely difficult but rewarding year with many highs and lows.
It’s surreal sometimes for me to remember how life began for our precious twins, joined together and sharing almost everything; yet here they are now, two and a half years old and full of mischief and fun with their whole lives ahead of them.’
The hard work and dedication of the boys’ parents and the medical professional is something to be admired as Angie details what life is like preparing the boys for their first steps, with numerous appointments with Enable Ireland to get to every week and more physiotherapy work to be carried out at home.
Here Angie tells the story behind the twins’ astonishing development and of an exciting year where the family got to meet the Queen, David Cameron and Simon Cowell, all of whom knew of the boys amazing story and were thrilled to meet the Little Fighters!
Little Fighters: One Year On is published by Gill Books on 11 May 2012, priced at €9.99.
