Gill Books Opportunity: Publicity Executive

Gill Books publishes an eclectic list of bestselling non-fiction, from agenda-setting current affairs and absorbing history to page-turning biography and beautifully produced lifestyle, including recent bestsellers such as Irelandopedia by Fatti and John Burke, Natural Born Feeder by Roz Purcell, Letters of My Life by Mary O’Rourke, Until Victory Always by Jim McGuinness and Francis Brennan’s It’s the Little Things. In collaboration with some of Ireland’s best writers, brands and a network of creative talents, Gill Books creates a dynamic publishing proposition in Ireland, building on a 150-year heritage whilst looking excitedly to the future.

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a creative, confident and talented Publicity Executive to create and execute publicity campaigns for a wide variety of titles and authors. Under the direction of the Marketing and Communications Manager, you will brainstorm and implement creative publicity strategies; schedule print and broadcast coverage for authors; seek out online media opportunities; and organise book signings and author events nationwide. You will be excited by our authors and their stories and have a passion for connecting them with as wide a readership as possible. You will build on your own network of contacts and develop long-term relationships with the media.

The Role

You will have a flair for copywriting and storytelling as you build original ideas into compelling propositions, and you will be confident and effective at pitching these ideas to the media. Knowing how your role fits into the wider communications and, ultimately, publishing effort, you will continually research and measure the effectiveness of your campaigns.

Your highly organised, calm-under-pressure demeanor will enable you to assess priorities and juggle demands simultaneously. Your exceptional communication skills will enable you to champion every one of our authors, books and the Gill Books brand, keeping all stakeholders fully apprised of publicity activities and looping back your learnings to the rest of the publishing team.

Requirements

One to two years’ PR experience and knowledge of the media and publishing industries will be an advantage.

Closing date: Friday 20 January 2017

To make an application, please email dmarsh@gill.ie with your CV and covering letter. Applicants should explain the opportunities they believe this position will hold and provide examples of relevant experience that demonstrate the skills outlined above.
