Domini at Home to published by Gill Books this September

19-09-2012 13:15

Anyone who is familiar with Domini Kemp’s food writing will know that she is always pursuing the shortest, tastiest, most efficient route to a great dish. In her latest cookbook, she comes up with her own recipes but also takes some of her favourites from other cookery writers, simplifying what sounds daunting and eliminating any unnecessary steps without compromising on flavour. ‘Call it plagiarism, call it lazy, call it practical ... it’s how I look to cook’, she says in the introduction.

And cook you will once you’ve taken a glance through this book! Domini doesn’t want us to just ogle the mouth-watering recipes and stunning food photography, but hopes her recipes will ‘encourage everyone to get out the knives and cooking board and cook some dinner’.

Domini’s no-fuss instructions will have you ‘chucking, whizzing and throwing’ things together in no time whether it’s her ‘Getting it into Them Family Favourites’ like lazy vegetarian lasagne and tandoori chicken or her ‘Fancy Casual’ recipes like gourmet burgers and posh chicken Kiev.

A chapter on ‘Salads, Sides, Soups and Starters’ (or ‘what we eat at home most nights’) features recipes that are great for whipping up after a busy day and most are good for two nights or to pack into lunch boxes the next day. How I Like to Cook is also packed with great vegetarian dishes that even carnivores will love (sweet potato pizza, mushroom gratin, courgette fritters, leek and bread pudding) and mains that are great for when you have a bit of time to play with. Domini is well known to be a reluctant baker and so only the best cakes make the cut in the ‘sweet treats’ section!

Domini at Home: How I Like to Cook is published by Gill Books, priced at €22.99.
